Coraline 3D Movie Review
Coraline 3D Movie Review
Coraline tells the story of a little girl who has just moved into a new home with her two parents. Coraline's mother and father are very distant from Coraline and don't really show her any love at all as the two parents are often very busy with their work. When Coraline gets bored and starts distracting the parents she is told to explore the new house they have moved into, doing so Coraline finds a path to an alternate reality where everything seems too good to be true.
In this alternative reality her parents are really kind to her and make her the centre of attention at all times, the mother always cooks beautiful food and the father often entertains Coraline by playing the piano, the only downfall to this world however is that everyone in it has buttons for eyes.
We soon find out however that there's a catch, if Coraline wants to stay in this wonderful and wacky world then she must replace her eyes by sowing buttons into them, ouchhh! There's one hell of a catch. Obviously Coraline doesn't want to do this and who can blame her. Once Coraline decides not to sow the buttons into her eyes then everything starts to spiral downhill for her in this alternate reality, and we see that Coraline's other mother is more Blair Witch than beautiful food cooking mother.
Coraline is a wacky, freaky and dark kid's movie with lots of adult humour injected into the core. Coraline also feels like a creation of Tim Burton who is known for pretty much all of the above, however Tim Burton is not involved with Coraline but I later found out after watching this movie that one of the writers from the Nightmare before Christmas was, hence the dark gothic tones in the movie.
With all the big children's animation studious adapting their movies for 3D I was getting a bit worried that this would become the core of the movie to show off the 3D effects however I was wrong. Coraline 3D was an excellent use of 3D technology and the 3D in the movie wasn't used just as a gimmick to sell tickets but it did in fact enhance the viewing pleasure for the audience. The visuals in this movie were excellent, the sets were amazingly detailed and a lot of effort was clearly put into Coraline. The backgrounds, Characters and even models were beautifully created and they all work together to bring Coraline to life. Coraline easily offers the best 3D technology I have seen in any 3D movie, and Coraline can also sit at the top of the Animation Pile for one of the best animated movies made, it seriously is that good.
Having said all of the above I believe that Coraline shouldn't be viewed by the younger children, not that Coraline isn't easy to follow or there's something that shouldn't be in a kids movie it's just that the movie in general has a dark and you could say gothic tone to it, which will certainly scare the younger children, if you think your children are mature enough to watch Coraline though I suggest you take them to watch this awesome movie.
I highly recommend Coraline 3D and award the movie with our top rating of 5 out of 5 stars.
