The Son Of Rambow
Starring Will Poulter, Bill Milner
Review by Mytvtalk.com
This movie takes place in the 80's and follows to young boys Will Proudfoot (Bill Milner) and Lee Carter (Will Poulter) who are at polar opposites of the school scale. Will is a nerdy school boy being raised in a fundamentalist religious community called the Brethren and Lee is the school bully who some how befriends Will. The young boys are inspired to make a movie when they watch a pirated copy of Rambow: first blood and decide to do so and enter the BBC's film contest for aspiring filmmakers, with Will doing the stunts under Carter's camera work.
However things get more hectic when French exchange student Didier Revol (Jules Sitruk) tries to hijack the role for is own personal gain.
When the story isn't concentrating on the two young boys making their own Rambow, it goes back and forth between both kids dysfunctional families. Lee Carter who lives with his older bully of a brother because his absentee non-caring parents live it up in Spain and Will lives with his widowed mom, sister and granny while sticking to the cult's rigid rules enforced by Brother Joshua (Neil Dudgeon), the group's religious leader.
Now for Mytvtalk.com Honest rating
I think this movie was supposed to some how inspire the viewers in someway with the kids hard work to produce a short movie but it fails to do so and watching this movie for the full 90 minutes just to watch a mediocre short film at the end wasn't worth it. I'm not sure who this movie audience was supposed to be but at the screening of the movie I went to the young kids in the audience weren't sure when to laugh or basically do anything through out the movie. Mytvtalk.com awards The Son of Rambow 2 stars out of 5.
