We have seen in the past that when work based comedies are done correctly they can be a huge hit, just like The Office or Clerks. However The Promotion in this case isn't done correctly and is sure not to be a hit.
The films follows Doug Stauber (Sean William Scott) a employee for a supermarket who is going no where in life, he has a little apartment who he shares with his wife but is constantly bugged by his next door neighbour who seams to be playing a Banjo all hours of the day, however this is all to change when Dough spots a new opening at another store for a managers positions. Even Doug's manager tells him that he is a 'shoe-in' for the position. So Doug tells his wife the good news and they decide to buy the dream house they have always been looking for. All is good until an employee (Reilly) from a sister company arrives who also has their eye on the same opening.
Now for Mytvtalk.com honest rating
What should open up allot of worked based competition and humour doesn't for some reason and you will more than likely not care which of the employees will get the promotion to manager. I'm unsure to as why this movie fails so badly, it has a good cast (Scott, Reilly, Bateman) with the potential to make a very funny movie however this movie shouldn't be in the comedy genre as it will fail to make you laugh.
Mytvtalk.com awards 'the promotion' 2 stars out of 5 and recommends watching ' the office' by Ricky Gervais or 'Clerks' By Kevin Smith, Both will offer a lot more laughs than this movie.
